THE BEGINNING

1902: Student’s Association Established

1938: John Connally, 39th Governor of Texas, elected Student Body President

1967: Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Representative for Texas’ 25th Congressional Districts, elected Student Body President

THE ACTIVIST YEARS

1971: Student’s Association renamed Student Government

1975: Carol Crabtree elected as first female Student Body President

1976: Student Government renamed Student’s Association

1978: Robert Alonzo elected as first Latino Student Body President, Student’s Association abolished through a student referendum

THE “NEW” YEARS

1983: Students’ Association reinstated through Senior Cabinet of College Councils resolution and Student Referendum

1993: Toni Luckett elected as first African-American Student Body President

FRAGMENTATION

1996: Student’s Association renamed Student Government through referendum once again

2002: Katie Ogden and Stacey Kounelias, elected First female President and Vice President of UTSG

2003: Online voting introduced to campus-wide elections

2008: Student Government ticket system eliminated from students elections

2010: February 2010 Referendum passed with 93.53% in favor to reform SG

Student Government reform task force created

2011: January of 2011, UTSG moves to its new location, SAC 2.102
